Weekly Portrait Painting to Improve Skill

Nothing helps maintain and improve any skill like PRACTICE.  This model has posed for Southgate Studio's Portrait Open Studio in Nashville, Tennessee many times.  He knows that we painters need practice painting many different types of models.  He tries to alter his appearance each time for our benefit.  For this session he chose a  "biker" look.  This is the first time that I painted a portrait of someone who was wearing sunglasses.  It was more challenging than I thought it would be.  The difference in value between the dark glasses and the dark shadow they created was very difficult to discern.  I will try this again sometime and see whether or not I can improve differentiating those two values better than I have done here.  At least I learned that this difference in value is very important and should be given a lot of attention.
